I made a Thursday Night pick on my twitter page (@WilliamBotchway) and I immediately regretted it:
VIKINGS (-5.5) over Buccaneers.
I knew it was bad at the time, but I couldn't talk myself out of it. As a result, I'm 2-6 on early week games, 0-1 this week, and 49-54-4* on the year. The Monday Night Massacre in Week 3 is the reason for the asterisk. I've yet to have my big breakout week, but it's coming. I hope.
"UPSET ALERT" next to games in which I think the underdog will win outright, not only cover. Also, home team in CAPS.
BEARS (-8.5) over Panthers. In my Weekly Awards, I called the best team in football. The already struggling Cam Newton will be beyond terrible in this matchup.
BROWNS (+3) over Chargers. The Browns have not been that bad recently (ignoring last week) and Norv Turner is on the other sideline. UPSET ALERT.
Seahawks (+2) over LIONS. The easiest underdog pick in a while. The Seahawks are good, the Lions are not. UPSET ALERT.
PACKERS (-15) over Jaguars. I try not to bite on astronomical spreads like this, but the Packers offense is playing so well. I'll probably lose this on a garbage time score.
Colts (+3.5) over TITANS. Two bad teams, picking the close game. UPSET ALERT.
Rams (+7) over Patriots Played in London, Rams home game. The Rams aren't terrible, and the Patriots are not who we thought they were.
JETS (-1.5) over Dolphins. The Jets should win this one at home. I still think the Dolphins are a good team.
Falcons (+3) over EAGLES. Just because Andy Reid never loses after a bye week does not mean that his Eagles should be the favorites. UPSET ALERT.
Redskins (+4) over STEELERS. Vegas has yet to figure out that the Steelers are mediocre, and their defense will be shredded by RGIII. UPSET ALERT.
CHIEFS (-0.5) over Raiders. Home team!
Giants (-2) over COWBOYS. The G-Men are better. Simple.
Saints (+6.5) over BRONCOS. This is an indictment on the Broncos defense. I don't trust them to keep Drew Brees from orchestrating a garbage time drive to make it interesting.
49ers (-7.5) over CARDINALS. The Cardinals are in a tailspin. The Niners, are not.
This Week: 0-1
Last Week: 6-6-1
Season: 49-54-4*
